Valuable Steps for your Spiritual Life
As mentioned in my previous "Daily Word" when you decide to follow Jesus and make him Lord over your life, your life immediately takes a different course. The Bible becomes your Daily Bread and the Word of God will become your basic guidelines for every aspect of your life. You will start living in gospel obedience; a disciplined obedience in line with God's will.
I will quote a scripture from Joshua 1:8which reads "Do not let this Book of the Law (the Bible) depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. THEN you will be prosperous and successful.
Indeed, the Word of God will enlighten your mind and path and you will be able to start a personal relationship with God.
How do I develop a personal relationship with God?
In order to develop a personal relationship with your heavenly Father, you should spend time with God. In the same way you spend time to get to know your friends, you must spend time with God to get to know Him and be familiar with His voice. You must deepen your affection for Him, talk to and hear from him. While communicating with Him on a daily basis, you will get to know His love for you and the purpose and dreams He has for you. You will develop a deep affection for Him and He will become your utmost goal for living. Brief, you will love Him with all your might and strength.
Jesus said in Mark 12:30 "And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength; this is the first and great commandment". He continued in verse 33 to say, "and to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbor as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices."
Jesus is saying that loving God is even greater than giving any offerings or sacrifices. Therefore, it should be our goal to get to know God in a more intimate way. I know it is not easy but believe me it is worth trying. Start your day with a short prayer and end your day with another short prayer. Make it a habit to talk to God on a daily basis; start with 10 minutes and you will end up spending hours with Him. You will gradually get used to hearing His voice, the psalmist reminds us in Psalm 50:3 that God is not silent; "Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence"
When you will reach the stage, you will be looking forward to just spending time in His presence. Your only goal will be to love Him and to please Him. All of His commandments will be then easy to follow. Your main concern will be to please Him because you will love Him with all of your heart, mind and soul. His love will be all you want, nothing else. You will experience the reason of your being and the purpose of this life. Indeed, He is all I want! Amen, please try to love Him.
Scripture: Ephesians 3:17-19 ...."that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height, and to know the love of Christ which passeth knowledge—that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God."
Prayer: Almighty God, teach me to love you more than myself. Show me your truth. Shine your light into the darkness of my soul. Help me experience your Love that surpasses all understanding and free me to reflect your love into the world around me. Amen
