I will divide the Lord's prayers into 7 parts:
Part one: Our Father who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name,
Part two: Thy kingdom come,
Part three: Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Part four: Give us today our daily bread
Part five: And forgive us our debts,
As we also have forgiven our debtors
Part six: And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from the evil one
Part seven: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power,
And the glory forever, Amen.
All parts of this prayer lay a solid foundation for our prayer life. We will start meditating upon part one, which is
"Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name".
This part can be categorized as "worship". We should always start our prayers with worship and enter God's gates with worship and praise. David knew how to enter God's gates with thanksgiving and worship and wrote in Psalm 100 "Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God….Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise, give thanks to him and praise his name." So let us learn to enter God's gate with worship.
Another point is that we are to worship our Heavenly Father. We are not worshipping a fearful God – an untouchable indifferent sovereign God - who is sitting on the throne waiting to judge and punish us; but we are worshipping a loving God who is our Father; a father who loves and cares for his children, and who longs to have fellowship with us. We have to realize that the strength of our prayers begins in knowing our Father. As mentioned in my previous "Daily Word" no man can call God "Father" apart from Jesus; and no man can call God "Father" until he is born again. John mentions in his gospel 1:12-12 "But as many as received Him (Jesus Christ) to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."
So, once you receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior you become a child of God and can communicate with your Heavenly Father who is a "rewarder of those who diligently seek Him".
"Hallowed be thy name"; "Holy and reverend is your name" (Psalm 111:9).
God has literally hundreds and hundreds of names and each name represents a way He wants us to trust Him. Through His names God wants us to know all the aspects of His character because the way we recognize God will affect the way we live our lives. For instance, trust God to be
I could go on and on, His glory and greatness have no end. Knowing all of these characters of God will make your faith grow stronger and will bring you closer to your Great God.
Start to acknowledge God's worth; start worshipping Him and His Holy Name. When you worship God and hallow His name, you will find your fulfillment in Him and nothing else. You will increase your faith and knowledge of Him and His Word and His being. You will learn how to trust Him and look to Him to meet all of your needs, because in Him we find our sufficiency. Then God will open the storehouse of blessing upon your life. Amen.
Scripture to read: "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink" (John 3:37)
Prayers: Lord, I draw close to You today; I want to know you in every way You can be known. Teach me what I need to learn in order to know you better.
Dear God, help me to set aside time each day to meet with You alone. Teach me to pray the way you want me to and help me to eliminate all that would keep me from praying. Amen.
