Part three:    Thy will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” is the third and final “thy” petition, which centers on God.  It is a heart attitude; a prayer of submission to the sovereignty and will of the Father.  In order to pray this part, we need to know "the good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:2).

The only way to know God's will is through His Word. Paul's prayers for the Colossian believers was "that they may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that they may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:9-10). The will of God is always joined with the ways of God. They go hand in hand. They will not contradict one another.

"God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Tim 2:4) Salvation is the most important will of God. I recommend that you read the "Daily Word - How to be saved".

This prayer requires a willingness to do God's will, whatever it might be, here and now on earth as it is in heaven. There is no adjusting God's will just because we live on an earth that does not acknowledge God's rule.

Sometimes, we pray and wonder why our prayers are not answered.  We want to impose our will on God and expect Him to change the whole universe just to give us what we want. If we only learn to trust God's perfect will for us, we will live in peace and happiness and will avoid so many problems.

Here are some keys to answered prayers:
  •  We must ask, and our request must be in accordance with God's will Please revise my "Daily Word - Power of the Word"
Jesus said "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall  find;  knock, and it shall be opened unto you; for every one that asks receives and he that seeks finds, and to him that knocks it shall be opened." (Matthew   7:7-8)
John 5:14-15 "And this is the confidence which we have before Him, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He  hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the request which we have asked from Him."
  • We must abide in Him and constantly meditate on the promises upon which we based the answer of our prayers:
John 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever  you wish, and it shall be done for you.
  • We must stand on the Word of God and ask by faith. We are to walk by faith and not by sight. Our attitude should be positive and we have to keep making statements of faith and not of unbelief, no matter how difficult the situation seems like:
Mark 11:23 "for verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this  mountain be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea, and shall not  doubt in his heart, but shall believed that those things which he saith shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he saith.
  • While waiting on God, we have to increase our faith by thinking on the greatness of God and his goodness; by counting our blessings,  and by thanking God for all the previous answered prayers:

"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians 4:6)

We will definitely learn more about prayers; but in closing, I would like to go back to the Lord's Prayer for a minute. Remember it begins with worship of the Father and moves to allegiance or commitment and a heart's cry to do His will, the longing, and a willing submission. Amen

Scriptures to read: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me." (Says the Lord) Jeremiah 9:23-24

Prayers: Lord, I pray You will fill me with the "knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding". Help me to walk in a worthy manner, fully pleasing to You, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of Your ways. Guide my every step. Lead me in "Your righteousness" and "make Your way straight before my face" (Psalm 5:8). I pray that you will get me where I need to go. God, all I want is what you have for me and what you want me to do. Amen.

God will keep on blessing us with abundant things if we are obedient and ask everything we desire in His name and declare the word of God. We should always trust that our Lord will give us the BEST in life. This is what we talked about last night: to have faith is to believe in unseen & nonfactual things. We have to trust / believe - even though our circumstances are telling us otherwise- that everything will work out for our own good. If things get rough, we should always know that God is there with us, holding our hand in every step. We are not alone. He has a beautiful plan for us :)

Hi Sireen, yes remember 2 Corinthians 4:8 "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." All the things of this world are temporary, but the spirituality and the things of our Great God are eternal. So don't ever worry about tomorrow "for tomorrow will worry about itself." Everything, like you said, "works for our good". Only focus on Christ and His love and you will be the happiest person ever. His love is so great that Paul prays "that I may understand the depth of this love that is beyond comprehension and surpasses all human understanding."
Keep focusing on Christ and God's Word and all will be great! Love you so much,
Auntie Suzy
