Part three: Thy will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
“Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven” is the third and final “thy” petition, which centers on God. It is a heart attitude; a prayer of submission to the sovereignty and will of the Father. In order to pray this part, we need to know "the good and acceptable and perfect will of God" (Romans 12:2).
The only way to know God's will is through His Word. Paul's prayers for the Colossian believers was "that they may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding that they may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God" (Colossians 1:9-10). The will of God is always joined with the ways of God. They go hand in hand. They will not contradict one another.
"God wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." (1 Tim 2:4) Salvation is the most important will of God. I recommend that you read the "Daily Word - How to be saved".
This prayer requires a willingness to do God's will, whatever it might be, here and now on earth as it is in heaven. There is no adjusting God's will just because we live on an earth that does not acknowledge God's rule.
Sometimes, we pray and wonder why our prayers are not answered. We want to impose our will on God and expect Him to change the whole universe just to give us what we want. If we only learn to trust God's perfect will for us, we will live in peace and happiness and will avoid so many problems.
-
We must ask, and our request must be in accordance with God's will Please revise my "Daily Word - Power of the Word"
-
We must abide in Him and constantly meditate on the promises upon which we based the answer of our prayers:
-
We must stand on the Word of God and ask by faith. We are to walk by faith and not by sight. Our attitude should be positive and we have to keep making statements of faith and not of unbelief, no matter how difficult the situation seems like:
-
While waiting on God, we have to increase our faith by thinking on the greatness of God and his goodness; by counting our blessings, and by thanking God for all the previous answered prayers:
"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God." (Philippians 4:6)
We will definitely learn more about prayers; but in closing, I would like to go back to the Lord's Prayer for a minute. Remember it begins with worship of the Father and moves to allegiance or commitment and a heart's cry to do His will, the longing, and a willing submission. Amen
Scriptures to read: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me." (Says the Lord) Jeremiah 9:23-24
Prayers: Lord, I pray You will fill me with the "knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding". Help me to walk in a worthy manner, fully pleasing to You, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of Your ways. Guide my every step. Lead me in "Your righteousness" and "make Your way straight before my face" (Psalm 5:8). I pray that you will get me where I need to go. God, all I want is what you have for me and what you want me to do. Amen.
