When the devil was not able to win the war against God, he set his sights on the ones who bore God’s image. His primary target is not those who are already deceived but rather the righteous ones. He lied to the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden, and is still lying to us ever since. His utmost goal is to pervert the laws of God and to destroy what God is doing in the world. He wants to get us to not trust or love God or listen to Him. He will do anything he can to distort our understanding of the character of God. He has been in rebellion against God from the beginning, and he still is to this day. He is doing his best to make us rebel against God, as well.

Satan's main deception is to make himself invisible and have us believe that he does not exist. When we don’t see our enemy, we don't fight him. We have to realize that we have an "enemy" that is real and dangerous and that we are to beware of him. He is an enemy, but a defeated one, for "The Son of God (Jesus) appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil."  (1 John 3:8)  We are not to fear him, for God promised, “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you (God) is greater than the one who is in the world (Satan)” (1 John 4:4). ). Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

The devil wants to keep us ignorant of this truth which sets us free and will do anything he can to hinder us in our search for truth and understanding. He will use lies to seduce us and to lead us astray.

God didn’t place us in this world to live lives of constant defeat and discouragement, but instead, has given us spiritual weapons to win the battles of life. In spiritual battles we cannot use physical weapons such as armors, physical ability, intelligence, finance or social skills but need to use our spiritual weapons; "For though we live in this world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary they have divine power to demolish strongholds" (2Corinthians 10:3-4); “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

In Part 3 we will discuss these spiritual weapons, but before closing, note that

  • We must recognize that our enemy Satan is real; he is "the tempter", "the king of lies" and "the accuser of our brethren". He is the "king of lies".
  • We must wake up spiritually, equip ourselves for battle and be ready to battle.
  • We must pray before any battle and engage other believers to support us and pray with us.
  • We must use the vital "battle plan" which is the Word of God.
  • You must take time to study the Word of God; and finally
  • We must recognize that no battle can be won without Christ who is our most important line of attack for our ultimate victory! Amen

Scriptures to Read: Ephesians 6:10-20

Prayers: Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills, where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.

He will not let your foot slip; he who watches over you will not slumber;

Indeed, he who watches over you will neither slumber nor sleep.

The LORD watches over you, the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

The sun will not harm you by day or the moon by night.

The LORD will keep you from all harm, he will watch over your life;

The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
