Ephesians 6:11-17 : 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes; 12 for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Third armor of God is

            3. Shoes of the gospel of peace (verse 15)

The Roman soldier's shoes were sick-soled boots strapped up to the knees. They provided stability and protection on rough terrain. Paul shows the necessity of putting on shoes to stand firm when the enemy attacks. So does the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; it provides stability and protection.  It does not rely on human means of warfare and is so vital to our being able to withstand circumstances. The gospel brings reconciliation with God and gives us confidence and certainty that we are at peace with God. If we are at peace with God and others, we will be able to stand against the enemy's accusations. Romans 10:15 ..."How beautiful are the feet of those who bring glad tidings of good things".

            4. Shield of Faith (verse 16)

The shield is the soldier's primary defense against the enemy's attacks and so is our faith in God's Word.  The shield was made of iron and was a good coverage. But it was also covered with lawyers of leather which were soaked in water just before the battle began to put out fire. This is an incredible picture; the shield soaked in water was used to quench all the fiery darts of the enemy. The shield represents our faith in the Word of God; and the Word of God is often likened to water that quenches all the fiery darts of the enemy. When the enemy attacks, our shield of faith in God's Word will extinguish all lies or accusations of the enemy because the Word of God will remain forever, Jesus said in Matthew 5:18 "I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." Our Faith in the promises of God will never fail.  In Hebrews 11:6 "Without faith you can't please God."

5.      Helmet of Salvation (verse 17)

The soldier's helmet was usually made of bronze and covered the whole head. With the head covered and the body shielded, the soldier had his personal defense in place. Helmut of salvation protects us from doubt and discouragement. It is the assurance of our salvation and the confidence that salvation brings. It protects our minds from doubt and gives us assurance of hope, encouragement and perseverance. When we put on our helmet of salvation, we acknowledge that the enemy cannot crush us, touch us or do anything to us without our heavenly Father's permission. The helmet is symbolic of the fact that we belong to the Lord Jesus Christ and are members of His forever family. When we put on the helmet of salvation we demonstrate that we know and embrace our position in Christ. Amen.

Scripture to Read:

Isaiah 59:17 "He put on righteousness as his breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on his head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped himself in zeal as in a cloak".

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I thank you for providing salvation for us. Thank you because without your salvation, we will end up in hell. Thank you that you lifted us up from the pits of hell and gave us eternal life.  Amen.
