The transgression that brought about the fall was the act of disobedience. Let's look at the results of the fall:
- Spiritual death, which means immediate separation from God, took place. Men lost his relationship to God.
- Man's conscience drove him away from God. He hid from God.
- Men knew shame; they were naked.
- Women were promised multiplied pain in childbirth and were placed in subjection to their husbands.
- Men were to eke out a living by the sweat of their brow.
- The ground was cursed to produce thorns and thistles.
- Physical death was to be the lot of all humanity. It immediately began to work in man's body. The body begins to decay until it returns to the ground "for dust you are and to dust you will return".
- Adam's seed was corrupted and Adam lost his God-given dominion over the world.
The book of Genesis, the book of the beginning of human race and the fall of men declares God's terms and provision for redemption. It is the foundation of marriage and family, of society and civilization. It clearly teaches God's purpose for humans, the curses resulting from the fall and the blessings provided by God.
It unfolds God's Plan of Salvation provided through atonement, a blood sacrifice, as substitution of life for life, foreshadowing Christ as the Lamb of God who would come to restore the lost relationships through the work of the cross. In Genesis 3:15, God declares that the offspring of the woman would crush the head of Satan. God said, "I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head and you will strike his heel."
The offspring of a woman refers to the virgin birth of Jesus. He is the only one who ever was born of the seed of the woman; "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; so the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." (Luke 1:36).
The Holy One, the Son of God, came in form of a man, died on the cross for our sins to be the substitution of life, so that we may live. He is the Lamb of God to be slain for the world. "The Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all" and "surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows". He bore all our sorrows, sicknesses, wore a crown of thorns, sweat drops of blood, and tasted of death and took upon himself the entire curse and judgment that fell upon Adam. He was made a curse for us in order that we may be blessed. He restored everything to man which has been lost in Adam. He restored the lost relationship between man and God and through his resurrection power enabled us to live an abundant life and made us more than conquerors in all aspects of life.
Prayer: Dear God, I thank you for your plan of salvation. I thank you that you saved me from eternal death. Please give me an understanding to comprehend your plan of salvation and the work of the cross.
Protect my family and keep us safe, Amen.
