Righteousness is such difficult subject that most people miss out the real meaning of it. Of course, I am talking about the biblical meaning of righteousness which is totally different than the worldly understanding of righteousness. Many people think that righteousness is entirely related to right living and right conduct. Certainly, both of those virtues are involved, but the Bible teaches that righteousness is not based on our good works; it is based on what Jesus did on the cross for us. 2 Corinthians 56:21 read "For he hath made him (Jesus)to be sin for us, who knew no sin that we might be made the righteousness of God in him."
You are not righteous because of who you are or what you have done. It's because of who God is and what He has done for you. You can do many good deeds but you are never good enough to stand before God. Your nature is corrupt and you cannot develop righteousness. Righteousness cannot be earned through your works and is not some state of spiritual development that you finally grow into. You will never be any more or less righteous than you are because of the sin in you. Righteousness is a free gift from God and is only available to us through the work of the cross.
Let's read Romans 5:18, 19 "Therefore as by the offence of one (Adam)judgment came upon ALL MEN to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one (Jesus)the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience (Adam)many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one (Jesus)shall many be made righteous." Amen
Conclusion: Righteousness is a free gift from God to all men through the work of the cross. That means it belongs to all men whether they know it or not or whether they received it or not.
Why don't you receive this wonderful gift by acknowledging the work of Jesus on the cross for you? It is only then that you can practice righteousness?
Prayer: Thank you Lord for your wonderful free gift that gives us access of righteousness. Thank you Lord it is because of this gift, we are not condemned any more, but if we sin and ask you for forgiveness, you are faithful and just to forgive us all our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Amen.
