Examining the scene that John saw in the middle of the throne of God, "and I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne …stood a lamb as it had been slain…" As I mentioned, John was looking for a lion; a mighty and majestic lion that would march into battle, and conquer the whole world and bring it into submission. This was exactly the reason why the Jews refused the Messiah and this is exactly why many people today cannot accept the Savior of the world. Nobody wants a wounded lamb, everyone desires power and majesty. But God's way is different than man's way. God's purpose was to teach men to turn from arrogance to humility and from pride to meekness.
Paul writes in his letter 1 Corinthians 1:21-25:" For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did notcome to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. For indeed Jews ask for signs, and Greeks search for wisdom; but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men."
1 Corinthians 2:6-9: "Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hiddenwisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory;the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; but just as it is written, “THINGS WHICH EYE HAS NOT SEEN AND EAR HAS NOT HEARD, AND WHICH HAVE NOT ENTERED THE HEART OF MAN, ALL THAT GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM” .
God's plan and purpose to save men could have never been imagined, nor recognized by men even though it happened in history. It could not have been understood by the wisdom of men but rather by the humbleness of men's heart.
I would like to quote Paul's description of wisdom in Romans 11:33 "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! FOR WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? OR WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN? For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen".
Conclusion: Arrogance was the sin and fall of man. God chose to save men through humbleness and humility and not through arrogance and human wisdom. We should know that God's wisdom is beyond our knowledge or grasp and we should therefore believe and obey Him no matter how mysterious His ways are. We should learn to trust Him in the midst of the mystery. His ways are to bring us to our knees in wonder and praise. Amen.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to open the eyes of my understanding and to give me your wisdom to see things your way. I ask you to forgive my arrogance and pride and grant me humbleness and meekness to grasp your will. Amen.
